Stacking power stations: more hours, or more power?

Short answer: adding extra batteries gives you more hours, but the same power at once. Adding more units gives you more hours and more power. Three EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max units cost about US$300 more than one DELTA 2 Max with two Extra Batteries, for the same 6,144 Wh of storage and three times the power (2,400 W from each unit, 7,200 W across the house).

Hours (kWh) vs power (kW): the one thing to know

  • Watt-hours (Wh or kWh) = how long. A 2,048 Wh battery runs a 300 W load (fridge, 2 fans, TV and Wi-Fi) for roughly 6 hours.
  • Watts (W or kW) = how much at once. The DELTA 2 Max's inverter delivers up to 2,400 W. Add an iron, a microwave and a kettle at the same time and you can pass that limit, no matter how big the battery is.
  • So: if your problem is "the battery runs out before JPS comes back", you need more hours. If your problem is "it shuts off when I turn on the pump", you need more power.

EcoFlow's manual says a single DELTA 2 Max "can connect up to 2 Smart Extra Batteries", for 6,144 Wh in total; a fourth box isn't supported. Extra Batteries only add storage; the 2,400 W output limit stays the same. On 21 October the DELTA 2 Max showed "Add to cart" on EcoFlow's US store, but the Extra Battery page showed no buy button, so check stock before you plan around it. Three units? Give each one a job

  1. Unit 1: the kitchen. Fridge and freezer. It cycles on and off all day, so it's the steady load that matters most in an outage.
  2. Unit 2: the living room. Fans, TV, lights, Wi-Fi and phone charging.
  3. Unit 3: the heavy jobs. A water pump, power tools, a microwave, or a CPAP at night. When the outage is over, lend it to family across the road.

Run an extension cord from each unit to its own appliances. Each unit works on its own; you don't wire them together.

The BLUETTI option (50Hz-ready, in stock when we checked)

The same idea works with the BLUETTI AC200L (2,048 Wh, 2,400 W, US$899 on BLUETTI's US store on 21 October). Three AC200L units come to about US$2,697 (≈ J$432K) for 6,144 Wh and 2,400 W from each. The AC200L can also take BLUETTI expansion batteries for more hours, and its solar input accepts up to 145 V, which suits rooftop-size panels. Switch it to 50Hz once in the settings. See it with our other 50Hz picks.

Safety rules for stacking

  • Never join two units' outputs into one outlet or one extension cord, and never plug one unit's output into another unit's input. US 50Hz-ready models aren't built to run in parallel at 120V; the hubs that do combine units are 60Hz or 240V.
  • Never back-feed your house wiring through a wall socket. It can kill a JPS line worker. For whole-house backup, a licensed electrician installs a proper transfer switch.
  • Set every unit to 50Hz before you plug in appliances. The DELTA 2 Max handles 50Hz automatically; the AC200L needs a one-time setting. Why 50Hz matters.
  • Charge one unit at a time from the wall, or spread them over different circuits. Fast-charging can pull a lot from one socket.
  • Solar panels: one panel per input, and never wire two big rigid panels in series on a DELTA 2 Max; about 91 V is over its 60 V input limit and can destroy it.

Not sure how much you need? Add your appliances to the sizing calculator, then decide: more hours, or more power.

Questions

How many extra batteries can a DELTA 2 Max take?

Up to two DELTA 2 Max Smart Extra Batteries, for 6,144 Wh in total, according to EcoFlow's manual and US store. A third battery or a fourth box isn't supported.

Does an extra battery give me more watts?

No. Extra batteries add hours of runtime. The DELTA 2 Max still delivers up to 2,400 W at once, however many batteries you add.

Can I connect two power stations to get 4,800 W from one outlet?

Not with US models that work on Jamaica's 50Hz grid. The combining hubs we found are 60Hz or 240V. To use more power at once, put each unit on its own appliances.

Is it cheaper to buy extra batteries or more units?

Extra batteries cost a little less per kWh: on 21 October 2026 a DELTA 2 Max was US$1,049 and an Extra Battery US$899. For about US$300 more in total, three full units give you the same storage and three times the power.

Will three units work in Jamaica?

Yes, if each one is a 50Hz-ready model. The EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max and BLUETTI AC200L are both rated for 50Hz charging and output in their manuals.
