How-to guide
Just got your BLUETTI kit? Set it up in 3 simple steps
Short answer: a portable power station and a folding solar panel give you backup power with no electrician, no wiring and no paperwork. Charge the station, unfold the panel in the sun, and plug in what you need. A BLUETTI AC200L (US$899) with one 200 W panel (US$349) runs a fridge, two fans, lights, a TV and Wi-Fi (about 300 W) for roughly 6 hours on a full battery.
The kit
| Item | Why | Price (BLUETTI US store, 24 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| BLUETTI AC200L | 2,048 Wh LiFePO4 battery, 2,400 W output, switchable to Jamaica's 50Hz. Can add BLUETTI batteries later | US$899 |
| BLUETTI 200 W folding panel | Recharges the station from the sun when JPS is off for days. Folds to about 23 × 24 in | US$349 |
| Solar charging cable | The panel has MC4 plugs; the AC200L has a round solar input. Check the station's box for BLUETTI's solar cable, or add one to your order | Check before you ship |

Set it up in 3 steps
- Charge it from the wall. Plug the station into a normal outlet until it's full. Then switch the output to 50Hz once in the settings (the AC200L manual covers it under "Frequency Switching"). Jamaica's grid is 110 V but 50Hz.
- Unfold the panel in full sun. Face it toward the sun with no shade on it, then plug its cable into the station's solar input. On a sunny day one 200 W panel puts back roughly 750–900 Wh.
- Plug in what you need. Fridge, fans, lights, TV, Wi-Fi router and phone chargers go straight into the station's outlets, using their normal plugs or a heavy-duty extension cord.
Once it's set up, use it everywhere
- Home: run fans, lights and chargers on daytime sun power to save energy.
- Emergency backup: keep the fridge, Wi-Fi and phones going when JPS goes out.
- Camping and beach days: it's portable, so take it with the panel.
- Farm: lights, power tools and an electric fence charger where there's no outlet.
What it runs (our estimates, full battery)
| What's plugged in | About | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi, LED lights, phones | 50 W | A day and a half or more |
| Fridge + 2 fans | 200 W | About 9 hours |
| Fridge, 2 fans, lights, TV, Wi-Fi | 300 W | About 6 hours |
Fridges cycle on and off, so real runtime is often longer. Add the solar panel and the battery refills during the day. Not for air conditioning all night or a water pump; size your backup if you need more.
Safety in 4 lines
- Never back-feed your house through a wall socket. It can kill a JPS line worker. Wiring a station into the house needs a transfer switch fitted by a licensed electrician.
- Keep the station indoors, dry and ventilated; only the panel goes outside.
- Bring the panel in before a storm.
- A US warranty may not cover use in Jamaica. More on warranties.

Questions
Do I need an electrician to set up a portable power station?
No. You charge it, plug a solar panel into it, and plug your appliances into its outlets. You only need a licensed electrician if you want it wired into the house through a transfer switch.
Will a US power station work in Jamaica?
Only if it can run at 50Hz. The BLUETTI AC200L can; set it to 50Hz once in the settings. See which models work.
How long does one solar panel take to recharge it?
One 200 W panel puts back roughly 750 to 900 Wh on a sunny day, about 40% of an AC200L. Three panels can refill it on a sunny day.
Can it run my air conditioner?
Not through the night. For all-night AC or a water pump, you need a much bigger battery bank.
