What it really costs to ship a power station to Jamaica (2026)

Short answer: a US power station costs about 30–65% more than its US sticker price once it reaches your door in Kingston. An EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max (US$1,049 in the US store) lands at about US$1,400–1,660 (≈ J$224K–266K). A BLUETTI AC180 (US$499) lands at about US$695–820 (≈ J$111K–132K). The range depends on one thing: whether Jamaica Customs charges 0% or 20% import duty.

The four costs that add up

  1. The US store price. You buy directly from the US store at the US price. Pick a model rated for Jamaica's 110V/50Hz grid. Here's why that matters.
  2. Florida sales tax: about 7%. If the store delivers to a Florida address, you pay Florida's 6% state tax plus the county surtax (1% in Broward, where Dennis Shipping's Lauderhill office is).
  3. Shipping with Dennis: about US$55–95 a box. Dennis charges by box size, not weight, so a heavy battery costs no more than a light box the same size. On 20 October 2026 their Florida office quoted about US$80 to Kingston for a DELTA 2 Max box and about US$55 for an AC180 box. Boxes sail every Thursday and reach Kingston on Monday and Montego Bay on Tuesday.
  4. Jamaica customs. Charged on the CIF value (the price you paid plus freight): import duty (0% or 20%), a 0.3% Standard Compliance Fee, a 0.85% Environmental Levy, 15% GCT, and a customs administrative fee (commonly about J$2,500). Customs is checked at delivery with a Dennis representative present.

Estimates, not a quote. US store prices as shown on 20 October 2026; Dennis Florida quote of the same day; J$160 = US$1. US delivery to the Florida address was free at checkout when we checked. Store prices, freight rates and exchange rates change.

Adding a solar panel? The DELTA 2 Max with a 220W panel bundle (US$1,349) comes to about US$1,840–2,185 (≈ J$295K–350K) delivered, and the AC180 with a 200W panel bundle (US$769) to about US$1,100–1,300 (≈ J$176K–208K). That's two boxes, so two shipping charges. Solar panels are duty-free and GCT-exempt, so a bundle may come in a little lower than these figures.

Why is the customs range so wide?

Lithium-ion batteries (tariff heading 8507.60) carry 0% import duty until 1 February 2027 under the Jamaica Customs Agency's current rates. But a power station is a battery, an inverter and a charger in one box, and customs may classify it as general electronics instead, which carries 20% duty. Customs decides at clearance, so plan for the higher figure and treat anything lower as a bonus. Ask Dennis or a licensed customs broker what to expect before you ship.

Ways to pay less

  • Buy the right size once. A bigger unit than you need costs more at every step, because tax, freight and customs all grow with the price. Size your backup in a minute.
  • Keep the original retail box. Dennis bills by box size, so don't put the unit in a bigger carton.
  • Watch for US sales. A US$100 discount saves you about US$120–145 by the time it lands, because tax and customs are percentages.
  • Compare with a local price. A unit from an authorised seller in Jamaica usually costs more but often carries a local warranty. Many US warranties only cover units used in the US. Read about warranties.

With Dennis Shipping from Florida, about US$55 to US$95 a box. On 20 October 2026 their Florida office quoted about US$80 to Kingston (US$95 to Montego Bay) for an EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max box and about US$55 to Kingston for a BLUETTI AC180 box. Rates change daily, so call with your box size.

Do I pay duty on a solar generator in Jamaica?

Possibly. Lithium-ion batteries carry 0% import duty until 1 February 2027, but customs may classify a power station as general electronics at 20%. GCT at 15% and small fees apply either way. Solar panels are duty-free and GCT-exempt.

Dennis Shipping's Florida office sails every Thursday. Boxes reach Kingston the following Monday and Montego Bay on Tuesday, with door-to-door delivery.

What does the receiver need?

A valid government ID that matches the name on the shipment, a TRN, and an itemized packing list with contents and values. Shipments are for personal use; buying stock to resell needs a business licence.

Is it cheaper than buying in Jamaica?

Often, but not always. Compare the delivered total with a local authorised seller's price, and remember a local unit usually comes with a local warranty while many US warranties only cover use in the US.
